Prairie Village & Museum features 21 historic buildings and seven exhibition halls arranged around a quaint village square. Touring the museum is like taking a walk through a turn-of-the-century prairie town.

Prairie Village Museum is a historical museum located in Rugby, North Dakota. The museum was established in 1964 and is spread over 12 acres of land. It consists of 24 buildings that showcase the history of the region from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.

The Prairie Village Museum was founded by the Pierce County Historical Society in March 1965. We began the operation in 1959 and spent years planning and building the museum. We were able to create the museum from donations across the region.

The museum's six exhibition halls feature antique cars, farm machinery, Native American objects, and household items dating from the mid-1800s to more recent times. People from all over the world tell us Prairie Village Museum is one of the best pioneer museums they've ever seen.

Visitors often spend at least 60 minutes touring the museum. Tours are self-guided, but we can provide children and school groups with scavenger hunts and other activities. Our buildings are not heated or cooled and you will be walking outdoors between buildings.

A towering life-size dummy of Clifford, built during Rugby's 1986 centennial, models a suit sewn for it by a museum volunteer. "When kids see Clifford Thompson," said Shane of the dummy, "they're either thrilled or absolutely horrified," but by all accounts he was a gentle giant.
