DOLGO CRABAPPLE. The Dolgo crabapple tree came to us from Siberia sometime in the 1800s. This crabapple tree has excellent disease resistance and is cold hardy down to Zone 3. Dolgo crabapple tree produces a slightly tart/spice apple that is very good tasting and is 1 1/2” in size.

Dolgo crab apples are scab and mildew resistant, featuring a cascade of white flowers in the orchard every spring. Fresh eaten, Dolgo tastes like a candied cranberry and adds a bitter-sharp flavor to ciders. The fruit is one of the first to ripen in the apple harvesting season.

The Dolgo Crabapple produces a heavy crop of large 1 - 1.5" olive shaped crabapples. These crabapples are crimson in color and very flavorful. The fruit of this tree ripens in August and September and persists well into December.

Dolgo crabapples are best known for making excellent jellies and jams. They are also very popular for making apple cider, apple sauce, and pies. In fact when you cook crabapples, they have a more distinct apple flavor compared to other apples.
