New Secret Service agents must complete a mandatory course of training that includes an initial 11 weeks at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia, followed an additional 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Washington D.C., the Secret Service’s training center.

The James J. Rowley Training Center (JJRTC) is comprised of almost 500 acres of land, six miles of roadway, and 31 buildings. The protective, investigative, specialized tactical, and executive/managerial training conducted at JJRTC is unique among federal law enforcement instructional entities.

The core curriculum is augmented with skills training in firearms, control tactics, physical training, water safety, and advanced emergency medicine. Peripheral classes introduce the students to a variety of administrative programs operating within the Secret Service.
