There’s growing concern a potential tropical system could bring significant flooding to the Gulf Coast, but questions remain in the forecast.

Forecasters are warning of early signs of a potential tropical cyclone developing along the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. A low-pressure system that could bring storms to Florida before moving west has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next several days, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

All of Southeast Louisiana is under a multi-day Flood Watch due to a Gulf disturbance expected to bring extreme amounts of rain to the area.

A system that is producing heavy rain and thunderstorms off Florida’s east coast could become a tropical depression later this week, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Hurricane Center thinks a tropical depression could form in the Gulf in a few days. Forecasters continued to track an area of low pressure that was in the western Atlantic Ocean just east of the Florida peninsula on Tuesday. It is expected to move westward, across the Sunshine State, and into the Gulf by Wednesday.

All eyes on the tropics as a disturbance nearing Florida will move into the Gulf and develop into a storm over the next few days.
