Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Netflix's Christmas football games scored record-breaking viewership. According to the streamer, over 24 million people tuned in for both the 1 p.m. match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as the 4:30 p.m. game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans .

Netflix will have one of its biggest days since the site launched in 1998 when it carries two NFL games for the first time on Christmas.

The NFL and Netflix also pushed a non-traditional number, aimed at creating the impression that the audience was bigger than it was. And many passed it along without context or scrutiny.
