If you're not from Milwaukee, you might think they're drinking fountains. But in southeast Wisconsin, they've been bubblers for nearly a century.

A public water fountain here — and pretty much only here — is called a bubbler — making it one of our 100 objects.

In the dip bowl area, the funnel that serves as the water bubbler must be unobstructed, so pull the tubing and funnel up a little bit as needed, surrounding the area with clean, decorative pebbles.

Drinking taps, water fountains or bubblers; whatever you call them, there is a divide within the community over how hygienic they are to use.

Clover officials have placed the York County town under a boil water advisory after a water line broke, resulting in a loss of pressure. The pipe was repaired overnight and water service was restored.

“From this water bubbler [at Olin Park] until around Olbrich Park, there’s like six or seven bubblers,” he said, “and then from Olbrich Park to here, there’s one.” ...
