The Trump administration has dramatically curtailed the ability for those facing deportation to be released from immigration detention.
“Our observers,” responds Gonzalez of NorCal Resist, are “everyday community members who want immigrant families to feel safe in court. To call them ‘rioters’ or claim that they are assaulting ICE agents, who have guns and are in tactical gear, is absurd.”
A group immigrants and legal advocates have filed a class-action lawsuit that seeks to stop Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers from arresting migrants who appear at immigration courts for previously scheduled hearings and placing them on a fast-track to deportation.
The new policy change was announced in a memo last week from the acting ICE Director Todd Lyons. The memo was described to ABC News.
Immigrants and their families are going online to raise funds to defend against their deportation, from GoFundMe to OnlyFans.
