National Grid, citing about $170,000 in past-due bills, has threatened to kill power to the USS Salem and its museum in the middle of its “haunted ship” Halloween event.
The work is designed to finally correct a sinking approach on the bridge which carries state Route 49 over the Salem River between the two towns.
The USS Salem has closed to the general public for the 2024 season but will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 7 for the ceremony, which is scheduled for 10 a.m.
