Designed by Carl Sagan and Frank Drake and illustrated by Linda Salzman Sagan, the plaques sported images detailing the location of Earth within the galaxy as well as images of a human woman and man.

Fellow Pioneer collaborator Linda Salzman also joined the committee, along with Druyan as creative director. The team had six months to capture the sounds and visuals of Earth.
