WellSpan, Meritus health systems enhance security after York hospital hostage incident
The victims of the UPMC shooting were taken to WellSpan York Hospital, and WellSpan Health is enhancing security at its facilities throughout south-central Pennsylvania, including Waynesboro and Chambersburg hospitals, numerous other medical buildings and offices in Franklin County.

These adjustments come after Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz entered UPMC Memorial Hospital in York County on Feb. 22 and held ICU staff hostage. Investigators said a nurse and a custodian were shot and a doctor was grazed before police fatally shot Archangel-Ortiz. Officer Andrew Duarte was also shot and killed.
