A powerful winter storm that dumped heavy snow and glazed roads with ice across much of Texas and Oklahoma lumbered eastward into southern U.S. states overnight, prompting governors to declare states of emergency and shuttering schools across the region.

Some schools will be closed or have early dismissal today due to cold temperatures and expected snow. Dayton Christian School and the Horizon Science Academy are closed in Montgomery County. Preble Shawnee Local Schools announced on social media that they are closed “due to inclement weather” in Preble County.

School districts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are closing their campuses Thursday and Friday as a winter storms bring a wintry mix to the region.
