Multiple fires broke out Thursday in the San Diego area as strong gusty winds and low relative humidity impact parts of San Diego County.

A fire erupted on Otay Mountain in San Diego, California, fueled by strong winds. Dramatic footage by Yordana Sanchez shows a plume of smoke rising from the hill on January 23, around 2:31 pm. Reports indicated the large vegetation fire started Thursday afternoon on a hilltop near the US-Mexico border.

Authorities issued evacuation orders and warnings to nearby areas early Friday morning as a wildfire in the Otay Wilderness Area exploded to 4,250 acres in rugged terrain overnight. Crews were able to get 10% of it contained.
