Parts of East Greensboro went dark today. Duke Energy has decided to turn off power in some homes and repair damaged equipment.

The last time Charlotte saw measurable snow, at least one-tenth of an inch, was in 2022. Now, there is a winter storm watch for the area. Snow, along with ice and the power grid, are concerns for Duke Energy. While they’re preparing to respond, they want to make sure residents will be able to as well.

With the potential winter storm impacts hitting Friday, power crews across Western North Carolina are standing by and ready to be deployed.

Power restored in East Greensboro ahead of winter storm

A winter storm was expected to reach the Carolinas on Friday, and it could cause power outages. Snow, sleet, and potentially freezing rain were expected to fall across North Carolina and part of South Carolina on Friday,

According to previous reporting, it will begin to snow late Friday morning around noon. Around sunset, sleet and freezing rain will start to mix in.

Duke Energy will suspend power from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to repair damage to substation equipment, in advance of Friday’s forecasted snowfall.
