A mile to the north stands the New Presque Isle Lighthouse. Built in 1870 at the tip of Presque Isle Peninsula, the light still is an active aid to navigation. The cost of the project was $35,500.

All these years later, the lighthouse still stands at the harbor entrance, and the Presque Isle Township Museum Society will commemorate the 175th anniversary of its opening this week.
