The students are part of the high school’s American Sign Language program, a quickly growing language course that added a new teacher this year and will add a fourth course next year.
Peabody Superintendent Josh Vadala said he will seek to have ASL count as a language course in any future state HS graduation requirements.
The addition of American Sign Language by School District 186 comes as the state mandates students take two years of a world language.
