What Is the Average Norwegian Fjord Horse Size? The Norwegian Fjord Horse size is small. The breed’s height ranges from 13.2 hands to 15 hands tall, but most horses are 14 to 14.2 hands.
Around 1840, the breeding of Fjord horses was formalised, with a stud established in the Dovre Mountains (Dovrefjell) in central Norway at an altitude of 1,000m.
A male Norwegian Fjord Horse named Nelson arrived last month. He is the first Fjord species to join the Zoo’s Northwestern Mutual Family Farm. Nelson will turn 15 years old this month.
