Clumber Park was once part of Sherwood Forest until the Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyme enclosed the estate as a hunting park for Queen Anne in 1707.
The Clumber spaniel has English roots and takes its name from Clumber Park, the home of the Duke of Newcastle. The breed is sturdy and low to the ground, well-suited for hunting in dense brush.
Each year the small team of gardeners, supported by 84 volunteers, take care of Clumber Park’s orchards and its walled garden. There’s Apple Day celebrations in autumn, and Blossom Week in spring.
The Clumber Park gardens team, which consists of seven staff and more than 45 volunteers, who come in regularly to create spectacular displays in the conservatory each season.
