The Met Office have issued an amber weather warning for Merseyside ahead of Manchester United's trip to Anfield to take on their arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday

Manchester United's Sunday evening clash with Liverpool will have to survive an amber weather warning. With temperatures set to drop below freezing across the UK, Merseyside could be left covered in snow.

In Liverpool, it is set to be cold but largely dry day with bright or sunny spells. There is forecast to be a few showers along the coast during the early hours of this evening, but elsewhere it is set to be "very cold under the clear skies with a severe frost". The Met Office has issued a new yellow warning for snow and ice in place from midnight until noon on Monday. The wide-ranging alert covers East Midlands, North East England, North West England, Wales, West Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber.

A Met Office weather map shows a band of snow and hail making its way across Wales on Saturday evening before the first flurries hit the south of Greater Manchester at 8pm. By 8.15pm snow is forecast for the higher ground around Stockport, Tameside and Oldham, before the main band of snow and hail arrives around 8.30pm.
