Type 1 chargers are just regular wall outlets, the same thing you'd plug your phone into to charge. As you might expect, it takes a very long time to charge an EV's battery with a type 1 charger --- about 20 hours for a 120-mile charge. Type 1 chargers use AC (alternating current) power, and range in output from 1kW to 7.5 kW.

Level one chargers plug into a standard wall outlet (120V), and often come with the vehicle at purchase (besides Teslas, as of earlier this year). They do not require an electrician, or any installation in general. Just plug in. Unfortunately, they are slow, often taking 10 or more hours to recharge the typical car battery.

Level 1 charging uses any 120-volt outlet ---the standard type of electrical outlet in your home. The cost for that in 2022 will range from free if there's one already installed to around $300 to put one in.
